Advanced and Complex Medical Emergencies (ACME)

The Course is to be held at the St Vincents Health and Education Centre Health Education Centre, Fitzroy, Victoria.
The College has developed the ACME Course for emergency physicians. The ACME course aims to use simulation training methods to improve the understanding of human factors and their impact on the quality of team-based clinical care within the specific emergency medicine environment. The course also features an update on key clinical skills with core modules on cardiovascular instability, airway and respiratory emergencies and complex emergencies. A further feature of the course will be a set of minor modules available as rotating options within the overall course design.
The ACME Course is available to Fellows, Advanced Trainees in their final two years of training, and SMO/CMOs working in emergency departments. Trainees must provide a letter of support from their DEMT prior to registration for the Course. SMO/CMOs must provide a letter of support from the FACEM Director prior to registration for the Course.

The highly interactive two day Advanced workshop focuses on the management of life threatening adult trauma and paediatric emergencies within the first 30 minutes of an emergency.
Content includes advanced airway management in critically injured adult and paediatric trauma patients, effective systematic approach to the assessment of the adult and paediatric trauma patient and management of the adult trauma and critically ill or injured paediatric patient, utilising local trauma guidelines and systems. This workshop is facilitated by a national team of highly trained intensive care paramedics.

Clinical Emergency Management Program Intermediate workshop

The highly interactive CEMP Intermediate workshop focuses on recognition and management of medical emergencies in general practice, including acute coronary syndrome, acute asthma and anaphylaxis, skills in organisational leadership, including effective communication and team management, management of scene safety, competence in airway management, effective ventilation technique and effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This workshop is facilitated by a national team of highly trained intensive care paramedics and include CPR practice and assessment, which meets the 2011-2013 triennium Basic CPR course requirement. It also meets the basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS) training requirements for general practice registrars and RACGP Fellowship.

Introductory Ultrasound for Emergency Medicine

Introductory Ultrasound for Emergency Medicine (IUEM) courses are delivered in 1/3 theory and 2/3 practical sessions.
The IUEM courses are designed for candidates with little or no prior ultrasound experience.
