This intensive five-day program provides the beginning Echocardiographer with anatomy, physiology, haemodynamics and detailed knowledge of sonographic planes, terminology, measurements and probe manipulation skills. There is an emphasis on the practical aspects of these topics with "hands-on" tuition, led by expert sonographers. Ultrasound in Emergency Medicine 2011

This five-day course has been specifically designed for Emergency Medicine Specialists who would like to become proficient in all the basic concepts of ultrasound scanning at the bedside.
Objectives:
To provide an overview of the physical principles and artifacts associated with ultrasound in Emergency Medicine;
To provide scanning skills required in maximising diagnostic ability;
To provide an understanding of the protocols required in answering common clinical questions.

Ultrasound in Emergency Medicine - Advanced Program 2011

This five day program is designed to build on the skills acquired during the basic program and to address further clinical questions. Registrants will have even more opportunity to discuss their own cases and library cases from the AIU. In addition, there is further basic cardiac tuition & training in the RUSH protocol.
Objectives:
To consolidate knowledge and increase confidence in scanning skills;
To provide further protocols in answering clinical questions including cardiac & RUSH;
To provide tuition in DVT examinations;
To provide an introduction to nerve block guidance techniques

Effective Management of Anaesthetic Crises (EMAC)
11th - 13th August

The course is to be held at the QH Skills Development Centre, Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital
Herston, QLD
This 2 day EMAC course is an ANZCA licensed course held at the SDC and consists of five discrete modules. These are Airway, Anaesthetic Emergencies, Cardiovascular, Human Performance and Trauma. There are 12 participants in each course consisting of anaesthetic trainees and specialists. EMAC focuses on how a crisis is recognised and subsequently managed. Recent literature reviews recognise that it is the human factors or behavioural aspects of team leadership and team interaction within health care where the errors are made.
EMAC focuses on the role of the anaesthetist as the leader of this team during an anaesthetic crisis and the interaction with the staff around the anaesthetist to use their skills and resources effectively. The EMAC course is accredited by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and is recognised as an alternative to EMST for vocational trainees.
The course is suitable for Anaesthetists, Anaesthetic Trainees who have completed both their primary exam and two years of Anaesthetic training. (GP and overseas trained anaesthetics may be suitable, please register your interest by completing the registration and form and participant profile and the SDC will contact you regarding your suitability.)

ACRRM - 60PDP (45 mandatory) - 65 MOPS

The Course is held at the Simulation and Skills Centre, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Parkville, Vic.
This two day internationally accredited course has been developed to standardise the teaching of cardiac arrest and resuscitation management.
The ALS course consists of lectures, practical workshops and cardiac arrest scenarios, providing the opportunity to practice skills and apply knowledge.
The course will emphasise the importance of teamwork prior to safe transfer into a critical care environment.
